The End Of Summer!

Yes, holiday’s over and it’s back to school! From the outside, that’s the way it seems anyway, though the truth is far different.

Even though I was supposedly going to be updating this site at east once a month, I decided to shut up shop for the summer for the sae of ‘creative refurbishments’. In other words, doing some creative restructuring and developing the visual direction of some of the stories in order to enhance what was already there. I know, when people usually do this sort of thing it’s to develop their site, with me, it was to develop what was going to be featured on the site. So in this case, you won’t see an overhaul, but it will hopefully be reflected in its movement and expression.

As a demonstration of this, each page has an update, furthering the insight into each’s development. I’ve even added Poem No. 7 – the last in the series, as I was only going to put up 7 excerpts – to the Poetry section.

Have a look, a read, see what you think, and please feel free to leave a comment, a question or even an emoticon. Your feedback is both welcome and appreciated.

Anyway, Thanks for stopping by and let’s get on with the show!

The shape of things to come… Intrigue, confusion and eerie machinations.

The Reprise's Reprise …or, The Reprise of the Reprise

I decided to re-write the ‘back-story’ to this one. I felt that as it was/is the first one out of the box that it deserved the attention.
The good thing is, now that it is done, I can move forward with continuing produce and post sections of the graphic story.

The first pic in that section from the updated stuff is an image of a wasteland, sort of an expansion of what takes place at the wall where Manny paints...

MIFFED!’s Back!

There’s just one image update for this one, a panel from the first page of the MIFFED! story.
It’s one of a series that just leads the reader into the scene, the story and the events.

A scene from page 7 where our protagonist is forced to defend herself unexpectedly.

POEM No. 6

Here’s the penultimate poem excerpt for this section, another one on the parting of the ways.
This one’s called, “The Peas Lasted Longer Than Our Relationship Did”. Sounds like a strange title – but it is rather apt.

Well, considering that the original design was conceived for a T-Shirt, it was really only a matter of time before it happened. So I’m making it available on my Shop Page. There are a wide range of other items such as Framed Art Prints, Cards, iPhone & iPad Cases, various Skins, Hoodies, Mugs and lots more!
You can see the whole range at -

Howdy's Reprise

I thought that it was about time I revisited the telling of this journey, especially as this tale is pretty much what kicked off the whole thing over a decade ago!

Anyway, I’ve picked up from where I left off, at the end of the Rustboy feature in 3D World magazine.

One of the original Manny images, created with Maya 3D animation software.

Over The Wall!

Yes, I’ve finally added to the Wall Stories section from some of the work that Olga (my creative partner) and I have been working on.

In truth, we have a lot of stories – some short, some long, so choosing something for the site was not that easy, being spoilt for choice. With that being the case, I opted for showcasing this one. It was written as a contribution for a magazine that Olga’s produced at uni on the subjects of Art, Activism and the Education System. It’s a first issue for them so should it continue and they want my involvement, then I’ll keep adding to the mix.

The story is called, “The Repulsive World Of The 3 Not-So Little Pigs”, and there has been talk of perhaps turning it into a graphic story. Personally, I have enough going on right now to begin drawing that, but should a potential collaborator come forth, then who knows?

POEM No. 5

I’ve added Poem No. 5 to the series for the Poetry section.
This one is called, “Now & Then (...& Now Again)” and deals with the break-up of a relationship and that sometimes awkward aspect of returning belongings back to an ex.

As I’ve said before, these are only excerpts from each of the whole poem so they actually read better in the context of the journey of each from A-Z, or beginning to end.

Mr. DOZO Comes To Town!

Yes, finally, here’s the Mr. DOZO update. It’s a little small, but that’s actually because I’ve been busy creating thumbnails of the complete story from Issue 1.
I’ve already decided how this story is going to be realised. I’ll get into that in the next update.

To create the initial ‘prototype’ of the Mr. DOZO graphic story, I simply cut in half a plain paper notebook that I had lying around that came free with a children’s meal! This  meant I could have 2 issues of the story to plan up.
From here, I use a pencil to draw up the graphic story in ‘thumbnail’ format; the whole volume. Once this is done, I can begin drawing up the story in a larger format, panel by panel (Checkout, BEGINNING OF A METHOD on the Mr. DOZO main page).

A notebook, after being ‘modified’ for creative purposes. The bottom half becoming Vol. I.

Volume I of Mr. DOZO, in thumbnail format, showing him on his way to his next gig.

Another shot of the Mr. DOZO thumbnail; his arrival at a children’s party.

I’ve also added a section to the MIFFED! main page – MIFFED! OF FURRY!, about the techniques used to create the fur on the character.

An example of the digitally painted fur created in Photoshop.

Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to leave any feedback, ask questions or just say what you think about this or any other realisation on the site. Thanks again, and see you soon. Ciao!

“Drums Of War” Images Added

I thought I may as well add a few images that I made from the Drums Of War book project (including a depiction of soldiers in the trenches during WWI), mainly so as people could get an idea of how it was initially envisioned.

Also, I’ve decided to add another poem in the series for the Poetry section.
This one is Poem No. 4 in the series called, “I Miss Those Days”.

Next week I’ll be adding a couple of images for the “Mr. DOZO” Project.

"Mr. DOZO" Debuts

Well, after about a year, I’ve finally gotten a basic story together for Mr. DOZO, the story of a down-on-his-luck clown. I’ll be posting some elements of it online at the end of this month, so watch this space!

Promo Poster for Mr. DOZO

Also this month, I was invited to speak at the monthly London Comic & Graphic Novel event called ‘Laydeez do Comics’ (see here).

It was a simple 10-minute presentation where I spoke about my background in Aerosol Writing, inspiration that lead me exploring animation as a means of visual storytelling as well as my current graphic novel projects. It was a great way of sharing with like-minded people, show-casing ideas and gauging public interest. Plus, despite the title, I felt very welcomed and supported. So many thanks to Laydeez do Comics, those in attendance and Sonja Todd for blogging this.

On the night, I was also joined by two other talented artists/speakers, Cliodhna Lyons (pronounced ‘Cleenah’) and Steven Appleby (known by many for his regular strip in The Guardian), so it was indeed an honour.
